2024 Ignis Tempranillo – Vibrant McLaren Vale Red Wine

Tempranillo is Spain's great black grape, the backbone of Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Its name comes from the Spanish temprano, meaning early, for the way it ripens ahead of other varieties. Ours is medium-bodied and made to drink young, all bright red fruit and energy over a fine, chalky grip. Look for raspberry and cherry, violet and thyme, with a lift of toasted spice and a savoury edge of leather and cola.

Ignis is a wine for easy gatherings and long afternoons, bright and full of energy. Open it when the mood is relaxed and the company matters more than the occasion.

    At the Table

Ignis wants slow-cooked things, dark savoury flavours and a little char. Tempranillo's natural warmth and supple tannins make it one of the most food-friendly reds at the table. Serve at 16–18°C. Decant 20 minutes if you can.

    Main Protein Pairings

Ignis loves lighter meats and anything with a savoury, tomato-driven edge.

    • Wood-fired or roast chicken
    • Grilled pork or lamb skewers
    • Cured meats and charcuterie (jamón, chorizo, salami)
    • Duck, especially with a cherry or plum sauce

    Sides & Interesting Pairings

This is where Ignis shows its Spanish heart.

    • Tomato-based pasta and wood-fired pizza
    • Patatas bravas or roast potatoes with smoked paprika
    • Grilled capsicum, eggplant and mushrooms
    • Manchego and other semi-hard cheeses
    • Paella, or a simple chorizo and white bean stew

    After Dinner

    Keep it savoury and simple.

    • Semi-hard, nutty cheeses
    • A bowl of fresh cherries or plums
    • Dark chocolate, not too sweet

    About the wine

Ignis comes from an excellent 2024 McLaren Vale season, one that gave reds loads of energy and bright fruit. It is made in a fresh, medium-bodied style that leans into Tempranillo's natural vibrancy rather than weight or heavy oak. Alc 14.0%, pH 3.48, TA 6.0g/L, RS 1.2g/L. 16 Months in second fill American oak puncheons.
